ABSTRACT

Increases in health sciences journal subscription prices have been a topic of discussion for decades, and there seems to be no solution to what will be, inevitably, a continuing problem. Librarians have responded by becoming more knowledgeable about inflationary trends within specific disciplines in order to provide this information to their constituents and make informed decisions regarding collection development and resource allocation. With the Index Medicus™ Price Study, EBSCO Subscription Services provides information to librarians in a way that can be used to illustrate in detail the price of providing information to specific groups of library users. The Index Medicus™ Price Study examines biomedical journal publishing trends over a five-year period and analyzes these trends by subject category and country of publication.
