ABSTRACT

Physical activity can be incorporated into all aspects of school life, including activities that occur before and after the school day, including active transport to and from school, active homework, and leisure time. Children have several options to commute to school, and getting there through walking or cycling is ideal for moving more. Schools are the main societal settings for the promotion of regular physical activity among their children, but as almost all members of local communities are affected by the actions of schools and their students, they are uniquely important forces for change and improvement in the local area. Homework is an integral part of the learning process in almost all subjects. Besides active transport and active homework, students also spend their time outside of school settings doing leisure activities. Recess is the non-curricular time that students spend at school between lessons outside of class.
