ABSTRACT
This chapter thoughtfully explores the salient concept of vulnerability. Arguably the most vulnerable group in current society is the young people who have been exposed to the care system and those who have left care. Within this chapter the author will use the term care leavers which was coined in the Children Leaving Care Act 2000. The challenges experienced by care experienced children and young people include mental health difficulties, poor educational outcomes, increased risk of homelessness and tragically suicide. The concerns that care leavers are more likely to have their children removed are highlighted, within the British Association of Social Work report in relation to Human Rights and adoption. This thoughtful and original research drew important attention to the voices of adoptive parents, adopted children as well as the marginalized voices of birth parents, many of whom are care leavers.
