ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on why and how the Indonesian diaspora movement, especially through Indonesian Diaspora Network (IDN) – a formal organization of Indonesian diaspora established in 2012 – changes its strategy to advocate their collective interest as well as to contribute to the national development. This shift happened on their main strategy, from political agenda in advocating dual citizenship law to be more emphasizes on its social role on development after the 2017 congress. I argue that this situation occurred because of political setting that does not support the dual citizenship proposal and a need to prove their real contribution to homeland society.
