ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the skilled diaspora from South Asia around the world, with specific focus on the OECD countries as host markets. It highlights the sectoral, occupational, and skill profile of this diaspora in the OECD countries and discusses their contributions through remittances, investments, trade, technology, knowledge networks, philanthropy, and soft power. It notes the role of government, industry associations, and social organizations in enabling these contributions. The chapter concludes by suggesting steps for South Asian governments to harness this diaspora community more effectively and strategically.
