ABSTRACT
The overall subject ‘Beyond Babel’ is used to organise some considerations of the present situation of psychoanalysis and its future, restricted to a special topic: the tension between psychoanalysis as a psychotherapeutic profession (organised in several national, European, and international associations), and psychoanalysis as a part of different academic faculties (in departments of psychology, medicine, and social sciences, etc.). I have run through psychoanalytic training according to the standards of the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA) and have worked for more than forty years in scientific institutions, for most of this time in the Sigmund-Freud-Institute (SFI), Frankfurt M, finally as professor of clinical psychology and psychotherapy of the International Psychoanalytic University (IPU) Berlin since 2009.
