ABSTRACT

The U.S. Geological Survey has conducted an extensive program of internationally oriented earth science information activities since the 1940s. In addition, the Survey maintains a comprehensive earth science reference library that was founded in 1879, and it also actively participates in the International Federation of Library Associations, the International Geophysical Union, the International Cartographic Association, and a number of other international associations. The Geological Survey is one of the principal distributors of manned spacecraft photographs and images and Landsat satellite images of the world. The Survey maintains several information offices that assist researchers in obtaining international and national earth science information and products.
