ABSTRACT

Budget cuts and reduced appropriations for new library materials in recent years have meant that libraries are only able to buy a small (and shrinking) percentage of the total number of new books (or other information sources) published per year. Therefore, it is increasingly likely that library users will need to request additional materials through interlibrary loan in order to satisfy their information needs. Many libraries have offered interlibrary loan to their borrowers for years and have a well-established method for dealing with such requests.
