ABSTRACT
Moments of consequence often happen when we least expect them. I was at a conference, drinking a large Peppermint Patty mocha by a fireplace in Hershey, Pennsylvania, when Mairi Cooper first approached me about helping create an organization that would elevate teacher expertise. We had never met before. At that time, in 2016, Mairi was serving as Pennsylvania’s Teacher of the Year, and I had just been announced as a Top 10 Finalist for the Global Teacher Prize. Before I had finished my coffee, she convinced me to join her. I was excited to help create structure for teachers to inform the decisions that impact our students.
