ABSTRACT

The exercise can be done with adults, adolescents, elderly people, people over the age of 8 who have the use of their hands, and anyone who enjoys allowing their unconscious minds to symbolically solve real-life problems. The basic steps can be adapted to fit almost any type of issue that coaches' creativity clients might be struggling with. The concepts underlying this technique came from the writings of a variety of well-known art therapists, including Margaret Naumberg and Arthur Robbins. The entire procedure generally takes anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how deeply engaged coaches' client becomes in the task. If coaches are presenting the experience to a group, it can take up to 3 hours to get around to including everyone in the discussion following completion of the exercise.
