ABSTRACT

Internal criticizing energies can be invisible, tricky to separate from, and extremely destructive. Without getting a handle on them, these voices, physical sensations, and distorted thoughts can drain all the joy and energy out of one’s creative efforts and make the process too unpleasant to want to continue. This chapter suggests that the client simply collect the pages in a folder. They can bring them in to the coaching session, where we can celebrate the accomplishments and their consistency, and work with some of the specific critic comments. With some clients, the critics can be relentless at first, and their sessions can involve about 80% critical mutterings. Over time, as they get the critic messages out of their head and onto paper, these mutterings diminish in frequency and power.
