ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. Administrators may hope to save money by reducing staff when the acquisitions process is automated. Some employees may dream of the ergonomic office. In times of limited funding reality approaches neither goal. It means instead a long, difficult transition period, increased work loads, backlogs and limited goals, the attainment of which seems to move ever farther into the future. Nearly two years and less than half way toward ultimate goals, an acquisitions librarian can pause to evaluate where we are, how we got there, what lies ahead and what we wish we had known when we started.
