ABSTRACT

West Africans’ farming attachment model is both similar and different than the Western attachment model. Of course, African Americans’ attachment is no different than love between others. The attachment lens guides both the EFT therapist’s view of love and the framework of therapy. Love means emotional engagement when there is a call/bid/reach to talk both about one's self, the relationship, and experiences out in the world. Secure love calms and restores balance and equilibrium. Gottman view of the negative impact of criticism is shared by Johnson, in that both suggest that love unravels in a series of moments involving emotional disconnections and dread. Emotionally Focused Therapy's foundation is the attachment lens with specific guidelines toward enhancing and promoting attachment-enriched conversation. The skilled EFT therapist uses a variety of the following EFT macro-moves, basic techniques, and micro-interventions to enhance communication.
