ABSTRACT

Kam's disapproval is a trigger, along with suggestions that they should consider adoption. Kam's attachment distress cues are criticism and Eric's withdrawal behaviors. Kam's attachment emotions are fears of being abandoned by Eric and of being alone. Their cycle: The more Kam reaches for connection by commenting on Eric's withdrawal behaviors, the more Eric withdraws. When authors began meeting, Eric expressed apprehension and frustration and found it difficult to be present with Kam. The authors are currently working on Kam's softening, accepting disowned aspects of herself, and creating new bonding experiences. The emotionally focused therapy micro skills of empathetic conjecture, heightening, validating, reflecting, evocative responding, and attachment reframe were utilized in exploring Eric's sadness and loneliness.
