ABSTRACT

This paper describes the end user training program at the Moody Medical Library, University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas. The library staff teaches two classes, “Database Searching for the Health Scientist” and “The Basics of Searching MEDLINE.” The first class is a two-hour class designed to acquaint the health scientist with the rudiments of online searching and the various database vendors and producers. The second is a seven-hour class developed by the National Library of Medicine (NLM). It covers searching MEDLINE by author, Text Words, and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and includes two hours of hands-on practice.
