ABSTRACT

Online searching has become both a content area and an educational activity in the health professional curriculum. In their new role of online educators, librarians should emphasize the principles and concepts of online searching along with its mechanical aspects. As a means of augmenting the knowledge gained during formal schooling, online searching renews learning and lessens user reliance on memorization. Health sciences librarians conducting online training for users have become key participants in their institution’s educational program. Subsequently, they should adopt formal educational procedures and ensure that planning is consistent with the aims of their institution.
