ABSTRACT
The effective preparation of those individuals who will manage libraries from now into the twenty-first century requires a professional education that is responsive, both to the changes that currently are occurring and to those that are predicted in the near term. In addition, effective education requires the preparation of professionals who can not only anticipate change, but who also act as change agents, directing and bringing about change in their institutions, in response to societal needs and shifts.
