Newspapers—Toward Preserving a National Resource

Following a brief discussion of past efforts at handling newspapers in an information setting, this article discusses the overall development and progress of the United States Newspaper Project (USNP). The author then goes on to consider a number of major questions that must be answered by the information community if true bibliographic control and preservation of newspapers is to be achieved.
