The Physical Aspects of Newspaper Collection Management: Some Problems and Their Solution

America’s heritage as depicted in newspapers is threatened by a number of problems, among them deterioration of original newspapers and microfilm and a general lack of training in preservation techniques. How common such problems are is demonstrated by a sampling of some of America’s archival repositories, state libraries, and historical society libraries. Suggestions are made concerning maintenance and preservation of newspaper collections.
