ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses projects the author created to intervene in computational writing that use remix as a poetic device. In literature and cultural studies, the meaning of text analysis is the close examination of a text in order to reveal its meanings. A cultural text analysis would seek the cultural structures and hierarchies that underlie a specific text. Automatic text generation aims to create computer-made imitations of existing human-made texts. As with a broken mirror, readers look for the differences between a human-made remix and a computer-made one based on the same elements. The author followed this experiment with a series of others in collaboration with designer Maya Marom, examining both various visual aspects of word hallucinations and the behavior of different input corpora, such as 16,000 adjectives ending with the suffix “able”, or combined texts from different languages or alphabets.
