ABSTRACT
This chapter suggests that digital humanities approaches may be useful in more qualitative types of research that involve close readings of music. It examines the creative micro-decisions made during the production of one segue from a Spanish megamix. The chapter describes some features of the Spanish megamix and the process of making a megamix fragment. The Spanish megamix can be traced back to the early work of Miquel Fabrellas, better known as Mike Platinas. Spanish megamix producers tended to utilize a type of segue technique in which elements of various songs would overlap but the overall segue still managed to sound "abrupt". It has illustrated that digital humanities approaches may also be adopted as part of a more qualitative analysis. The chapter explores the process of making a segue in the style of a Spanish megamix. Several musicologists have drawn on approaches from the digital humanities.
