ABSTRACT

This chapter identifies the fundamental concepts of analytical psychology. The three key concepts comprise the relationship between conscious and unconscious, the framework of opposites and the individuation process, which is the red thread running through the chapter. The fundamental concepts are presented through Jung’s energy view of the psyche. This perspective illuminates the interconnectedness of analytical psychology with the natural sciences and current research in related fields. Description of Jung’s structural view covers both the multilayered ‘archaeological’ depths of the psyche and the psyche’s archetypal actors. These include Anima, Animus, Persona, Shadow, Ego and the Self. Complexes are then described in terms of the movement of energy. Personality types are observed in the framework of the orientation of consciousness. Special attention is given to Jung’s concept of symbol, as the quintessential communication guide between unconscious and conscious. These fundamental concepts of analytical psychology are chosen and presented in a manner which invites their further exploration in the corporate context.
