ABSTRACT

A definition of trauma is followed by a brief outline of the early history of trauma theory and its relevance to analytical psychology. Contemporary neuroscience is described with reference to brain and neural mirroring research, and the topic of resilience as a desired outcome is addressed. Post Jungian perspectives on trauma in individuals are given and these are followed by a consideration of transgenerational and collective trauma. Post Jungian approaches to dealing with trauma are noted in the conclusion.
