ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the infant research relevant to work with adults in analytical and organizational settings. Early experience models relational patterns in adults. Relationships with partners and colleagues are to a large extent based on these experiences which are not readily accessible to consciousness. Awareness of these patterns brings an opportunity for conscious mastery and transformation in relationships. The relevant topics include coenesthetic communication, representations of interactions that have been generalised, affect attunement, transference and countertransference and the intersubjective field. The early relational patterns are activated in the relationship with the client and the very relationship can serve a vessel for transformation towards the realisation of archetypal potential.
