ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the concept and technique of social network analysis to the virtual group coaches (VGCs) who are interested in exploring the group dynamic and access the team process in the virtual group settings. For virtual group coaching interventions, it could be used as a second or third data collection to inform the VGCs if there are any changes being made between or after the interventions. The social network analysis (SNA) technique could be used in virtual group coaching to visualize data for group dynamics by illustrating sociograms and key parameters for network analysis, and the OD or process consultant could diagnosis and intervene in the virtual group with the data collected between each intervention. The most common challenges while adopting the SNA technique in virtual group coaching are access to the relational data, the misconception of formal relations, and technology.
