Sociologist Barbara Katz Rothman delves into the ideologies that shape motherhood. Specifically, she examines those of patriarchy, technology, and capitalism. She shows how each of these ideologies provides separate ways of thinking but are also woven together to create a both a curtain and a cage that inform the meanings of mothering.
