ABSTRACT
This chapter examines how organized youth sports reflect values and practices of contemporary parenting, including the idealization of intensive mothering and involved fathering. In particular, the authors show how through organized activities, parenting goes beyond the home environment and becomes a public act that is observed by other parents, with these observations forming the basis of what is deemed to be a good parent.
