ABSTRACT

Consultation with affected communities is considered critical to the development of socially inclusive policy, but efforts to develop good practice approaches to consulting the Deafblind community have been almost nonexistent. This chapter reports on a consultation process, which utilised a modified form of World Café, to gain insight into the views and experiences of the Deafblind community living in Victoria, Australia. It was established that the inclusion of and engagement with Deafblind people in the generation of new knowledge for the purposes of research and policy development is possible, but that methodologies which assume sight and hearing need to be modified.
