ABSTRACT

Opening Doors is a community leadership programme for social inclusion running within four local government areas in Melbourne, Australia. This chapter draws on the experience gained through the ten years of the programme’s existence, as well as various evaluations of the programme and of the initiatives run by programme graduates, to describe a successful model of how community leaders can be empowered to generate sustainable social inclusion within local communities. The discussion throughout emphasises what has been learnt about sustaining social inclusion.
