ABSTRACT
Research objective: This chapter will help researchers who want to navigate secrecy, managed openness and partial (in)visibility in the study of security issues. It provides practical information on sources for studying the arms trade; how to engage in Freedom of Information requests; and how to combine methods iteratively, including both quantitative and qualitative methods. It discusses methods in the context of the relationship between scholarship and politics in critique.
