ABSTRACT
Although there is grown awareness of the challenges related to patient safety, there has been little evidence of improvement as rates of death and serious injury related to error and adverse events increase. Digital infrastructure in clinical settings that offers tracking and traceability of care processes and products used during patient care linked to patient outcomes, are at the heart of the issue for clinicians. By appreciating the role of the clinically‐integrated supply chain, the health informatics professional can be well‐positioned to support this function, regardless of one’s position in the organization.
