ABSTRACT

Organizations that undervalue project management as a strategic competency for driving change report an average of 67 percent more of their projects failing outright. At a time of extraordinary challenges, organizations can benefit from making investments to create a future-focused culture and hire people with the skills and mindset to deliver big, bold projects. It is becoming increasingly clear that the future will belong to changemakers who are able to innovate and think creatively. The modern project management toolkit enables project managers to direct projects using multiple approaches—predictive, agile, and hybrid—in a range of environments. But project professionals need to continually upskill to maintain their relevance and position themselves to navigate this new ecosystem of work. Project skills are essential to any industry. By establishing a project management office, organizations such as healthcare providers that manage multiple, complex projects ensure good governance, standardized project processes, and facilitated sharing of resources. This increases efficiency and provides cost savings.
