ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the initiative on piloting a massive open online course (MOOC) at Universiti Putra Malaysia, describing the initial phases of development to the implementation phase. At the development phase, the production and operational management are very much leaning on the resources available that include tools, technology, and expertise that suited the local skill sets available and needs of the course. Through the implementation of the pioneer MOOC, the two main learning styles, namely acquisition and participation, designed for this course are evident. Collaborative learning is taking place through the platform where students share learning materials, discuss real case scenarios and current issues, and talk about life and things beyond the provided contents as well as share their stories of project implementation. UPM values and nurtures an innovative, reflective, and experiential approach to educational excellence and, to that end, puts in concerted effort toward reaching global students through the launch of PutraMOOC.
