The Impact of Demographic Change on Unemployment Rates in Canada: 1953-1978

In Canada, as in most Western economies, the rate of unemployment was higher during the 1970s than during the 1950s and 1960s. Indeed, except for the unusually high figures of the period 1958-61, the unemployment rate showed a trend increase over the whole of the 1953-78 period.
