ABSTRACT
Santa Fe, New Mexico, is renowned as a rich center of southwestern culture—a vibrant mix of interweaving Spanish, Native, and Anglo influences. The construction of this heritage is the subject of Wilson’s chapter, drawing on his book The Myth of Santa Fe. Exploring narratives of architectural design, city planning, economic development, and regional histories, Wilson maps the cultural processes behind the Santa Fe inherited today. Historic preservation was a central strategy in forming the historic image of Santa Fe.
