ABSTRACT

Agile in software development is a blanket term that covers many different tools, techniques and ways of working. Like Lean, it has at its core a focus on customer value, the promotion of continuous improvement and the reduction of waste from the software development process. The Kanban board has significantly improved our daily stand-up providing team members a visual cue for discussions and making it clearer across the team exactly what they have been working on. Prior to use of the board, the online system’s ticket numbers were frequently referenced at our stand-up meetings. In a university for example, users tend to be students with their own learning commitments, or front-facing staff where budgets or business requirements do not allow them to be seconded. The chapter discusses the bottlenecks at the next retrospective to identify the cause and find solutions to prevent this happening in future.
