ABSTRACT

This introduction provides an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book aims investigate how teaching practices can address the changing status of literature in the French classroom. It addresses first and foremost a number of critical issues facing not only French professors, but humanities on the whole. French instructors must be prepared to teach outside of the French classroom. The book examines how to adopt these new pedagogical strategies within expanding interdisciplinary contexts. It offers the reader ideas for developing new courses and new approaches to teaching French through a variety of disciplinary lenses and within a variety of curricular contexts. From teaching works in translation to team teaching, we propose means to attract and engage students who otherwise might not be exposed to French studies or to the lives and works of French-speaking women.
