ABSTRACT

I cannot close this volume of work without a word on the context in which it was created. At the time of this writing, the President of the United States and his administration have detained families seeking asylum and separated countless children from their parents in the process. In other words, the United States has decided that it is okay to, in essence, jail boys and girls as young as 18 months, without their parents. People all over the planet were outraged by this practice and, as a result, the administration tried to reunite families, but some children have been lost in the system and it is uncertain how many families have been destroyed by the policy. At one point, several news outlets publicized the cries of children in detention centers, which gave me and my colleagues nightmares, but those fitful dreams pale in comparison to the reality of the families caught in the torturous system.
