ABSTRACT

A re-envisioning of the stance at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, three women raise their fists in this airbrush, graphic print. The women, in all black silhouette, in the foreground, create a stark contrast to the rising sun behind them. The sunrise is in bold tones that mimic the flag of Arizona, a land which used to be Mexico, where Latinas have lived since before the creation of the United States, where farmworkers have fed the world with their work, and where the Chicano/a movement rose alongside movements in California and New Mexico.
