ABSTRACT

Transport forms the vital link between tourists and destinations. It also provides the focus for many tourist activities such as sightseeing and cruising where transport is the context as well as medium for movement within and between destinations. The chapter examines all aspects of land based travel to enable readers to understand the relationship between transport and tourism, the significance of different modes of surface transport and their contribution to tourism. A case study of innovative transport provision (Megabus) and its global operations are presented. The role of operational issues in developing competitive modes of tourist transport are also discussed.
