ABSTRACT

San’ai Dream Center (fig. 62) has long been a mystery to me. Even as a child I could not understand why such a tiny establishment stood at the corner of Ginza 4-chome. The coffee shop on the ground floor was especially cramped and pathetic; it would have looked more at home next to some provincial railway station than in its premier location. Relative to the cylindrical service core at the center of the building, the usable space inside was absurdly shallow (fig. 63).
