ABSTRACT

The emergence of quantum physics has been a major scientific, cultural, and technological revolution. Quantum physics provides the basis for most modern technology and more is expected from the future generation of quantum information technologies. Unfortunately, its spreading in popular culture has been affected by remarkable misunderstandings and confusion, with scientific terms used in distorted ways to suggest interpretations unrelated to their actual meaning. This is providing a fertile ground for ‘quacks’ seeking for novel ways to build pseudoscientific arguments in support of commercial products, spiritual doctrines, or fake medical practices. This chapter will provide a critical analysis of how, through logical fallacies, physics jargon is distorted to evoke fantastic scenarios, and controversial experiments and dismissed physical models are presented as confirmed scientific facts to obtain fake demonstrations of unfounded claims.
