ABSTRACT

As increasing numbers of writing centers relocate to or have a presence within their college/university library, the need grows for resources to help writing center administrators anticipate and manage the day-to-day, practical concerns resulting from writing centers and libraries sharing space. We surveyed more than 100 directors of centers located in libraries on the challenges that arise from co-location, strategies to best meet those challenges, and recommendations for other centers/directors who are anticipating or planning a move into a library. In this chapter, we draw from this survey data to present a practical guide for writing center directors, focusing on concrete approaches and considerations that can help create effective partnerships with libraries and negotiate challenges that may arise from co-location.
