ABSTRACT
What do Islamist groups do when the benefits and opportunities for political participation shift dramatically? This chapter addresses this question by first providing an account of political Islam in Yemen, followed by a closer analysis of how the period since the Arab uprisings has fractured Islamist movements, weakened the strongest Islamist political parties, and led to the militarization of most Islamist actors.
