ABSTRACT

The phenomenon addressed in this contribution, whatever the expression one chooses to indicate it, is the digital transformation of working processes, understood as the upgrading, or the “augmentation” of socio-technical relationships – those among men, between man and machine, and among machines – both internal and external – that is, inside and between organizations (topologically understood) – enabled by the latest generation of information and communication technologies (ICTs). A privileged perspective for the observation of such a phenomenon is that of the enterprise information systems: digitalization (of machineries, semi-products, products, services, technical actions, etc.) comes with the “datafication” of production and work in its making and consequently provides new sources of data, to be integrated with existing information systems and databases into valuable datalakes in support of managerial decision making.
