ABSTRACT

This chapter offers an in-depth discussion of the theoretical framework of the Journalistic Role Performance Project. It revisits key theoretical aspects that must be taken into account when studying journalistic roles and also reexamines the concept from different angles and lenses. Specifically, it critically examines professional roles as norms, ideals, and performance, as well as the relationships that exist among the different elements that comprise the construct of professional roles in journalism, and how journalistic role performance can help us explain journalistic culture in a more holistic way.
