ABSTRACT

In this paper a ID network system model based on three point method of characteristics has been developed to study the effect of proposed reclamation of low lying area along Mahim Creek, situated on the west coast of India. The creek is characterised by presence of very shallow channels, tidal flats on both sides and rock outcrop which acts as a sill. These features were schematised in the model. The entire Mahim creek system has been considered to consist of 11 channels, 12 nodes and five tidal flats. Mathematical model results obtained for the existing condition indicate that the model simulates the prototype behaviour satisfactorily. Thereafter the model was effectively used to predict the impact of reclamation and channelisation.
