ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the result of a collective attempt to map out and bring closer the diversity of voices, actions and approaches that are leading different forms of opposition to the nature–society conflicts that neoliberal policies and ideologies are generating. It presents the experience of many activist groups fighting against the ecological damage and livelihood losses of extractive industries, the evictions and expropriations by big infrastructure projects and the violence and coercions of the state to impose corporate interests. The book describes the views and voices of many different academics. It attempts to contribute to the enormous debate on social movements, environmentsal justice and neoliberal natures.
