ABSTRACT

Understanding how individual and community behaviour and response might be affected by risk perceptions and policies in extreme climate events will be essential to develop effective and relevant bottom-up community approaches in maximising climate change adaptation. This chapter contains a case study of routine urban household preparedness for typhoon/hurricanes, the use of fans and air conditioners. Personal protective measures towards heatwaves and cold spells are delineated. These efforts will share insights of how communities may perceive their health risk perception and mount out self-help behaviour.
