ABSTRACT

Climate change mitigation efforts and policies are important proactive prevention attempts for a society. This chapter describes some key urban policy approaches in mitigation that might bring relevant health and environmental co-benefits (HECs). Case studies of community uptake of HECs in Hong Kong, and the overall impact of climate change on health in China are described. This chapter also describes research gaps and how the UNISDR Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, Sustainable Development Goals, and the implication of the latest World Health Organization thematic research area of health-emergency disaster risk management (Health-EDRM) may contribute to efforts to tackle climate change and the health agenda.
